Dewhurst House is an existing concrete framed and brick-clad office building in the Smithfield area of the City of London. The proposal for Kingston Estates refurbishes and extends the existing building to add value and area while creating an exciting high quality workspace.
The design took into consideration local context, both old and new, with the site located in St Paul's height constraint area, a conservation area, and also near several new large-scale developments including the Farringdon Crossrail site.
A new ground floor opens up to West Smithfield with a proposed new plaza and an exciting new reception space that connects to a café bar in the basement. The office floors capitalise on the existing concrete structure to create an industrial aesthetic through technical services fit out and emphasising the deep soffit of the floor slab.
